Jana De Wet

MSc Sports Science (BScHons Biokinetics)

Janine is a qualified Biokineticist and Pilates instructor with over 18 years’ experience within roles promoting health, rehabilitation
and wellness management.

 

Offering advanced skills in assessing clients and designing appropriate programmes, monitoring and documenting progress, and achieving results that exceed client expectation. She is committed to performance improvement and provides a full capability offering in Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, Dance rehabilitation and more.


Janine was also a member of the State Theatre Ballet Company and performed in many Ballet Productions. She has a unique
understanding of the inner workings of what it takes to get to a professional level, the dedication, hardships as well as the
reasons why dancers do what they do.

In 2019 she developed and presented a course on "Injury management for Dancers and Gymnasts" for Health Care Practitioners and was accredited by the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA). 

In 2020 she presented a Webinar on the same topic for the Wish Webinar through WITS University and Dr Jon Patritious. 


She has integrated all her knowledge of rehabilitation, dance techniques and a dancers mindset to structure this practical approach to injury management for dancers and teachers.

Jana is a registered Biokineticist with a Masters degree which focused on injury management of professional ballet dancers (MSc Sport Science). She has worked with Cape Town City Ballet throughout her Master’s degree research, and travelled with them on their tour to Zimbabwe to treat injuries.


Jana believes in a holistic approach to injury management and therefore also practice as a Pilates instructor and Sports massage therapist.
She is passionate about dance science and educating dancers.

 

Her research has also been published in The Journal for Dance Medicine & Science (Recovery stress states of professional ballet dancers during different phases of a ballet season, 2022). She co-authored
a book chapter on recovery modalities for athletes (Recovery and well-being in sport and exercise, 2022), and has presented dance related topics at various events including at the Dance Medicine and Science Conference (2019), Royal Academy of Dance teacher’s event
(2021), CPD events for health care professionals (2018, 2021) and workshops for dance studios (2020, 2021).


Jana has also lectured at University of Cape Town (Centre for Theatre, Dance & Performance Studies, 2021) and Stellenbosch University (Sport Science Department, 2019 - 2021).


With her own ballet experience of 12yrs and her continuous research and clinical expertise, she founded and devolved aDvANCE. aDvANCE is a brand dedicated to educate and advance the performance of artistic athletes.
